Out of my Reach

NOTE: If some of this sounds like my previous poem Reach, that's because it is. I wasn't happy with Reach. I felt like it was incomplete and that I could put more into it. Reach was inspired by the song Use Somebody. Just recently I heard a song by Cara Beth Satalino called Shimmering Thing. In my mind I played with Use Somebody and Shimmering Thing. Then I did the same thing with my poem Reach and here's what came out of that.

Wake up to an annoying sound.
Drink my coffee as I ponder a clock
I want to drown. Misery has my mind
bound as I ride to work downtown.

Walk around lookin' up at what I can't reach.
Pretty faces fill the places I wish I could be.
Trying to jump start my life. That's hard to
do when it's empty. Need someone with a
smile and an open heart.

Growing up I was told to sit down and
be quiet. Now I know I'm not stupid. Not out
to start a riot, but I'm only average. That don't
get me replies from women on ok cupid.

A lot of things are out of my reach.
Don't wanna air dirty laundry. Don't
mean to cry, whine, or preach. Have
a talent I want you to see. Hope it's gonna
make you notice me. Hope it's gonna make
you love me.
